Ocean Africa Container Lines sponsor a community soccer team

On Transnet’s recommendation, OACL adopted a football team, Ashley United, as part of a community upliftment project in the Clermont area of KZN.  Moshe Motlohi, Durban Port Manager, first introduced the project to OACL and explained how it assisted youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds, providing them with a sense of belonging, helping them focus on achievable goals and winning!

Ashley United’s home ground is the Christiannburg Stadium in Claremont. They won the SAB League in the 2015/16 season, subsequently winning the national playoffs to be promoted to the ABC Motsepe League which is the third tier of the South African Football Association.

At the time of writing this article, Ashley United are in sixth position in the league, having played eight games into the 2016/17 season, winning two, drawing four and losing two.

We wish the team, their coaches, managers and the community that supports them all the very best and hope that they continue to grow from strength to strength.

OACL would like to invite all Grindrod employees to attend games and support the team. Log position, results and fixtures will be posted on the intranet from time to time.
