Grindrod investing in future leaders through the Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust (CRET)

Grindrod recently hosted a Career Day for seven promising graduates. Grindrod is sponsoring four students through CRET and three independently to further their tertiary education in diverse fields such as engineering, logistics, legal studies, and finance. The event aimed to equip these future leaders with valuable insights into their chosen career paths and introduce them to life at Grindrod.

Representatives from various departments, including Finance, Internal Audit, IT Security, the Commercial Team, Legal, and Insurance Treasury, shared their unique career journeys. Each speaker provided valuable advice, illustrating how their roles contribute to the company's success. The graduates were encouraged to ask questions, leading to enriching discussions that broadened their understanding of the diverse career paths within Grindrod.

The highlight of the day was the inspiring talk given by the CEO, Mr. Xolani Mbambo, who captivated the audience with his humble beginnings and incredible career journey. From his first job as a gardener to qualifying as a Chartered Accountant and working for a multinational mining company before joining Grindrod, Xolani shared his wisdom with heartfelt sincerity. He emphasized the importance of defining one's purpose in life, accepting constructive criticism, and the fact that "hard work trumps talent when talent is lazy." He urged the graduates to strive for excellence, stating, "Be good enough to be recognized. And never forget to put your faith in a higher power."

Commenting on the day, Xolani said, "It was a pleasure meeting the group of enthusiastic graduates, and I look forward to watching them grow and develop in their careers. I do not doubt that they will be successful in their chosen career paths."

This Career Day showcased Grindrod's various career opportunities and reinforced the importance of perseverance and purpose in building a successful career. As the event concluded, the graduates left feeling inspired and equipped to embark on their educational journeys with renewed determination.
