Rise Against Hunger Africa (RAH) recently thanked the volunteers at Grindrod’s Komartipoort offices for their time to help pack nutritious RAH rice-soya meal packs. The staff packed 10,000 meals (46 boxes) valued at R29,000 in just 4 hours. Grindrod staff then further dedicated the rest of the day, helping distribute these meals to 5 creches (ECDs) in the area, benefitting 230 children. Being small businesses themselves, the ECDs can save on food and thus focus those savings on infrastructure development (e.g., additional classrooms), teacher training, health and safety as well as sanitation, attracting more children, and improving the quality of education. The total savings created by donating 46 boxes (10,000 meals) would be ~R6,900 over the four months. A job well done!
