As a shareholder in Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC), Grindrod celebrates another milestone achieved at Maputo Port.
Mineral Dragon sailed out of Maputo Port last week with a 13.3 metre draft and carrying a load of 117 000 tons of chrome. The Mineral Dragon is the second ship carrying more than 100 000 tons of cargo successfully departing the port this year. The largest vessel to load at Grindrod’s Terminal de Carvão da Matola (TCM) and Maputo Port, set sail on 20 May 2021, having loaded over 120 000 tons of magnetite.
Receiving Cape size vessels was made possible with the 2016 dredging project at the Port of Maputo which included the dredging of the access channels. Maintenance dredging operations were concluded in February 2020. These investments ensure an efficient route to market for Africa’s commodities.
