As communicated by Mike Hankinson on behalf of the board on 22 August 2018, Andrew Waller and Xolani Mbambo will lead Grindrod in the roles of CEO and Financial Director respectively.

Andrew qualified as a Chartered Accountant (South Africa) in 1987 and completed his articles at Deloitte and Touche. His time at Deloitte included training in Pietermaritzburg and 3-years in Aberdeen and Edinburgh. In 1995, Andrew was appointed audit partner in Pietermaritzburg, senior partner in KwaZulu Natal and lead client service partner of the firm’s largest clients in South Africa. In 2011, Andrew was appointed Financial Director, Grindrod Limited. The role included co-development and execution of strategy across the three core divisions, Shipping, Freight and Financial Services, as well as management of the group’s shared services. His experience includes acquisitions and disposals across the divisions and across geographies. He was closely involved in two equity raises and a number of financial restructures to ensure the group operates with secure facilities and a secure and sound capital base. He is also currently a director of various local and international subsidiaries. Andrew was selected to serve on the Board of Directors of Grindrod Shipping.
