Grindrod Intermodal collaborates with a customer to unlock a trade corridor

Grindrod Intermodal (GIM) has been contracted to facilitate the logistics of moving copper concentrate from Zambia to South Africa and on to global markets. The GIM team recently received its first parcel of copper concentrate at its Denver facility in Gauteng.

In preparation for handling weather-sensitive cargo such as copper concentrate, GIM invested in a custom-built warehouse. The team at Grindrod Intermodal worked closely with the customer to find the most efficient solution to transport the cargo from Zambia to South Africa.

As an example of finding efficiencies in the logistics chain, tipper trucks that transport products from Phalaborwa to Zambia are used on their return leg to transport copper concentrate to GIM’s Denver facility in Gauteng. The cargo is then loaded into containers and railed to Durban Container Terminal for export.  Much planning and constant collaboration with all parties ensures that the shipment is safely delivered.

This is another example of Grindrod investing in infrastructure and collaborating with customers to unlock trade corridors.
