The Grindrod Terminals team at Seamunye this week celebrated the loading of sulphur onto rail wagons destined for Zambia. This is the first shipment of sulphur railed from Richards Bay in 13-months due to road transport being the preferred mode of transportation. The rail bodes well for the strategic unlocking of the north/south corridor into and out of Richards Bay, which will attract additional cargo flows to the Port of Richards Bay.
The Seamunye facility was refurbished in 2019/20 and included investment into total refurbishment of both the A & B warehouses, including the installation of an automated fire suppression system, which is due to be completed by August latest. This investment was made with the strategic unlocking of the bi-directional traffic flow of sulphur, copper concentrate, and fertiliser as the primary commodities to be targeted.
In conjunction with our strategic stakeholder partners, Transnet Freight Rail, and Zambian Railways, Grindrod can offer an integrated supply chain offering to the customers from the loading/discharge of vessels to delivery at the final destination in Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
