After 13-years’ service with Grindrod, Simon Hadebe has retired. His colleagues bid him farewell at a function held at Southgate recently.
Simon first worked for Auto Carriers in the 80’s and re-joined the business in 2006, shortly before Auto Carriers was acquired by Grindrod. After re-joining, Simon assumed the position of Senior Driver Trainer, a position he has held with aplomb and dignity to this day.
Simon has exceptional leadership and mentorship skills together with a unique ability to operate and drive all types of vehicles. He has moved thousands of vehicles and pieces of equipment over his career. These include a 110 metric ton locomotive from Witbank to Umkomaas and some of the biggest dump trucks ever imported into South Africa. Simon also obtained many accreditations and qualifications over the years.
Simon holds a special place in his heart for all the young men he has trained over many years and has felt incredible satisfaction as these young men have grown into competent drivers.
The management, executive and all employees of Grindrod Automotive wish Simon all the best for his well-deserved rest. Simon’s work ethic, humility, and caring attitude has been an example to everyone who has worked with him. “Simon, you can be extremely proud of the incredible legacy you leave behind. You’ve had a positive effect on many lives, which we all hold dear and will keep emulating to keep your legacy alive,” said Grant Bahlmann, General Manager Grindrod Automotive.
