Grindrod Stevedores (GS) acquired two additional sets of Grabs & Hoppers. This brings the number of Grabs & Hoppers to a total of six thus ensuring adequate equipment for the bulk discharging of more than one vessel at a time.
The hoppers, procured from a level 4 BBBEE company, were purposely built with wider legs to accommodate a bigger turning circle for trucks. The size of the outlet was also increased to enable a better flow rate on cargoes with poor flow characteristics.
Volumes handled by the Grab & Hopper equipment has quadrupled since the inception of this service in 2016 and volumes are expected to reach 500 000 tons by end of 2019.
Again, investment in key infrastructure at Grindrod’s facilities which are strategically positioned along trade corridors enables more efficient service to our customers.
