Bread tags for wheelchairs

Bread Tags for Wheelchairs is a social and environmental responsibility program. It facilitates the purchase of wheelchairs for people who cannot afford them, while ensuring plastic tags and bottle tops are recycled.
The tags and tops are collected, consolidated and sold to recycling firms. The funds received are used to purchase wheelchairs. Any entity collecting either 200 kg of tags or 450 kg of tops can stipulate the recipient of the wheelchair.

A Grindrod campaign to support the ‘Tags & Tops’ program is being championed by Bronwyn Burdis. Bronwyn placed posters and collection jars in the reception areas of Grindrod House, Grindrod Mews and Quadrant House and will facilitate the collection and delivery of the tags and tops.
Since the start of the campaign on the 14th June 2017, 10 kg of tags have been collected.  Grindrod Mews and Grindrod Shipping were leading the charge until Carol Williams from King & Sons brought in 8 kg of tags collected by her family and friends.

“If we can maintain this momentum we will be able to nominate a wheelchair by November,” said Bronwyn.
