Grindrod’s Terminal de Carvão da Matola (TCM) successfully implemented an Artisan Training Program

In April 2014, 9 candidates embarked on an Artisan training program, four were existing TCM employees the others were recruited externally for the program.
The artisans attended three courses spanning a period of over 2 years and obtained qualifications aligned to MerSeta requirements and relevant legislation. The training involved theoretical learning as well as period of on-the-job exposure at TCM. They were tested against an integrated MerSeta Millwright Trade Test and on completion of their training were issued with a “Capital Trade Certificate” on being found competent.
The feedback received from the coordinator during the training was extremely positive with learners not only demonstrating a constant improvement in skills but also being commended on their attitude and behaviour during the course.
The nine artisans have been fully integrated into the terminal and are assuming full responsibility and accountability as fully fledged artisans. They are progressing well and continue to gain in experience and knowledge on a day to day basis.

Well done to Abdul Machava, Antonio Macome, Facilio Guilamba, Jose Pangacha, Julio Manguele, Leonel Mabica, Paulo Lango, Pedro Mate, and Rui Chabana from Terminal de Carvão da Matola (TCM) for successfully completing an artisan program over a 2 year period.
