Mohammed Khalil Yacob – 43 years
Mohammed Yacob joined Unicorn Lines in Durban as a Coding Clerk in June 1974, rising to Junior Research Officer in 1981 and to Junior Operations Research Officer in 1984. In 1985 he transferred to Unicorn Bulk Trades Department as Operations Clerk where he was involved in the development of the bulk salt trade from Walvis Bay.
In 1986 he was promoted to Operations Controller, and in 1995 to Operations Manager, working mainly with oil products. In 2000 he became a bunker trader with Unicorn Tankers, and from 2008 worked for Island View Shipping in both the parcel service and Atlas grain trade.
Mohammed was known among his colleagues as a man of faith, and indeed he is planning a pilgrimage to Mecca. He was also respected for the way he endured his health challenges, and as a total optimist. Mohammed and his wife Fozia have three adult children and five grandchildren.
