Transnet Port Terminals (“TPT”) achieves a strong quayside performance through a recommissioned conveyor belt linking Grindrod’s Navitrade terminal and TPT

Durban, South Africa, 18 December 2024 - Grindrod is pleased to announce that it reached 2 million tonnes of coal throughput at its Navitrade terminal in Richards Bay, thanks to the invaluable support and collaboration of TPT. The collective efforts of the TPT and Grindrod teams as well as TPT’s strong quayside performance have been instrumental in breaking previous records and positioning the terminal for continued success.

Kwazi Mabaso, CEO of Grindrod Terminals said that TPT played a crucial role in repairing the 2.2 km conveyor belt damaged in the October 2021 fires. “This conveyor, which transports coal from the Navitrade terminal to the port, was successfully recommissioned in January 2024, resulting in improved operational efficiency and reduction in the port congestion.” Mr. Mabaso continued.

Navitrade’s successful loading of its largest shipment of 87 243 tonnes on the M.V. KMAX VISION in October 2024, further underscores the dedication, collaboration, and commitment of our teams to achieving remarkable milestones and TPT’s strong quayside performance through this conveyor belt.
