Kwazi Mabaso, the CEO of Grindrod Terminals, congratulated the team on the successful acquisition of the Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb (DPMT) business at Walvis Bay Bulk Terminal (WBBT) for the upcoming three years. Volumes of between 550 000 and 750 000 tonnes of DPMT copper concentrate are expected to be imported via Walvis Bay during thisperiod of 2023-2026. The cargo is offloaded from the vessel, stockpiled, loaded into trucks or rail wagons, and transported to Tsumeb, approximately 600km from the port of Walvis Bay. Grindrod's Terminal facilities in Walvis Bay provide a daily handling/storage service to DPMT.
Dundee Precious Metals Inc. (DPM) is a Canadian-based, international gold mining company engaged in acquiring, developing, mining, and processing precious metals. DPMT is its subsidiary company located in Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region of Namibia. It owns and operates a smelter facility in Tsumeb that treats complex copper concentrates to produce copper blister.
DPMT business has been the backbone of operations at WBBT for years, and the conclusion of this contract is a remarkable milestone in Grindrod's journey. It strengthens its foothold in the industry and solidifies its position as a leader in providing superior services.
