In 2022, a group of extraordinary women at our Terminal operations in Maputo and Matola, Mozambique, founded a Women’s Forum to look at ways of contributing to the well-being of Grindrod employees and the local communities. The forum aims to initiate projects and awareness campaigns to empower women and impact society.
At the helm of the forum are Nilza Tcheco and Alice Berns, supported by 33 Grindrod volunteers based in Maputo and Matola. The forum meetup on a quarterly basis to discuss relevant topics of concern and plan initiatives to support their colleagues.
This year's projects included participation in the Mandela Day webathon and a health fair at TCM focusing on breast cancer and the importance of early detection. This was a particularly moving event as cancer survivors were given the opportunity to share their journey. A more recent initiative was “Blue November”, a campaign focused on creating awareness of prostate cancer. This was communicated through toolbox talks during November.
The ladies are now planning sustainability projects to be implemented next year. We wish all the forum members every success as they plan their events for 2023.
