United Container Depot expanding their footprint

United Container Depot (UCD) will be moving to a new Container Park on the 30th April 2022. Grindrod’s property division is developing the facility opposite the Grindrod Intermodal Depot in Denver.

The development will comprise a 25 000 m² footprint, with two-way access from the upgraded road. In addition, the facility will be fully fenced with high tower masts, mobile offices, a canteen, ablution facilities, a container washing facility and 24-reefer plug points. Bulk Services, including primary water, electricity connection, stormwater management, waste disposal, sewerage systems and an upgraded road of four lanes, will also be included in the development.

UCD presently leases a property approximately 4 km away. The property is in very poor condition resulting in challenging operating conditions, reduced customer service and ongoing wear and tear to the operating equipment.

Last year UCD moved from their depot location in Paarden Eiland, Cape Town, to larger premises in Beaconvale, Parow, comprising a container stacking area of over 20 000 m² and warehouse space of 4 000 m². Over and above the Cape Town and Johannesburg facilities, UCD also has depots in Gqeberha and Durban.
UCD was acquired by Sturrock Grindrod Maritime, a division of Grindrod Limited, in 2018 as part of the Novagroup acquisition.
