Grindrod welcomes Nombulelo Daizy Mthembu

Nombulelo Daizy Mthembu, is the first lady to join the Grindrod Terminals Richard Bay facility in the role of Boilermaker.

After finishing a technical matric at Umkomazi Secondary school, Nombulelo enrolled in a Boilermaker learnership with Sapref. After 3 years of blended training, she was able to secure an opportunity to sit for a trade test in July of 2017 and passed first time. Thereafter she worked as a contractor for various organisations.

In 2018 she landed a position at Grindrod and initially worked under Express labour broking as a contract boilermaker. Within the first few weeks on the job, her work stood out and she started gaining a reputation for her excellent weld quality.  As a result of this, she was interviewed for a permanent position and officially joined Grindrod as a Boilermaker on the 1st of November 2018.

Asked where she sees herself in 5 years’ time, she answered without hesitation: “I see myself as somebody in charge of a team of artisans, boilermakers and draughtspersons solving challenging structural problems”.
