Grindrod invests in the communities of Nacala

Maputo, April 22, 2024 – As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility projects, Grindrod maintains its commitment to investing in the communities where it operates. The company has supported several projects in Nacala, seeking to boost the development of the region and assist local communities through different initiatives.

Looking back at 2023, Grindrod promoted the construction of a water hole to serve school students and the community, benefiting 4 blocks that corresponds to approximately 3580 inhabitants. At the same time, 2900 students from the Socaju Primary School, located in the neighborhood of Ontupaia, near the Grindrod facilities in Nacala Porto, received 1620 books organized in literary baskets distributed in each classroom.

In terms of training and employment, the company has already trained 31 operators, of which 9 are already part of the Grindord team and a further 5 have been hired by other local companies. 

Ozi Honwana, Managing Director of Grindrod Logistics Mozambique, said: "Grindrod is committed to positively impacting Africa. Our focus is to improve socio-economic conditions in the communities in which we operate. We have progressively expanded our operations and expanded our social responsibility initiatives."

With an eye to the future, Grindrod is already planning a series of projects aimed at expanding opportunities in Nacala through partnerships and actions that will promote community development. Among the expected actions is the formation of a partnership with Field Ready in 2024 to implement the Road Safety Campaign for Grindrod. Through the Association of Members of United World Colleges of Mozambique, the company aims to promote the integration of local students into the educational network of United World Colleges (UWC) through international scholarships offered by UWC schools, while the Orange Corners program will empower local entrepreneurs for social development. 

Ozi Honwana adds that: "Our commitment goes beyond the needs of the present, as we are investing in the future of communities. We want to create structures so that people have more opportunities to generate a stable source of income in the long term." 

Grindrod will also continue to promote seminars for its drivers and outsourced drivers on safety and cargo protection, carry out occupational health awareness campaigns for employees and implement recycling bins in partnership with the Municipality of Nacala, aiming at preserving the environment. 

These initiatives highlight Grindrod's commitment to positively impacting trade between Africa and the world, significantly impacting the lives of the communities where it operates.
