Mining

We have long-standing relationships with commodity traders and miners – providing road, rail and sea transportation for commodities to and from our terminal operations in southern Africa. Commodities are bagged, containerised or transported in bulk. The terminal facilities provide storage, cargo flow management, packing and unpacking containers, ship loading or discharging, stevedoring, clearing and forwarding, stock management and rail scheduling. Our focus is on coal, iron ore, copper, manganese, chrome and ferrochrome.

Agriculture

Whether transporting citrus from the farm or cold store, sugar from the mill or grains from silos, Grindrod’s network of facilities, fleet of trucks or independent transporters, and container vessels, ensures that the cargo is stored, bagged or containerised and distributed to its destination.

New Energy commodities

The world is focusing on the transition from traditional energy-related sources such as coal-fired power stations and petrol-powered vehicles to sustainable energy sources. This is a decisive factor in tackling climate change.

Lithium, cobalt, nickel, graphite and vanadium are used in the production of steel alloys, gas and wind turbines, nuclear reactors, batteries, biogas and solar cells, etc. Mined on the African continent, these commodities are traded globally for the manufacturing of sustainable energy sources. This will provide socio economic opportunities for people on the African continent.

Grindrod has a track record of supporting the mining industry, collaborating with stakeholders, investing in infrastructure and forging new routes to market.

The Grindrod team is exceptional at pulling together our in-house logistics capabilities and sourcing specialist service providers to deliver on the most complex operations. From transporting locomotives across borders by road and sea, delivering equipment on specialist barges for the expansion of berths and dredging of the Maputo Port channel, beach landing of project cargo in East Africa to the delivery of once-off containerised cargo across borders. No project or cargo type is too big or complex for the team to handle – from the planning stage to the delivery, including all logistical aspects and documentation.

We are passionate about combining service offering across the group and looking for the most direct and efficient corridor to transport cargo to its destination.
